Life is a Picnic - Do Over Time

Happy Monday!

Did you ever make a card and you liked it, but you just weren't sure if you LOVED it?  Yes?  Me too.  Yesterday.

I used all of the stamped elements shown here on yesterday's card and while it was ok, it just didn't seem bright and cheerful enough.

So standing at my work table staring at the card, I made a new plan for those elements.

Once I figured out the card needed a brighter background, everything came together.  I did add a small frame to anchor some of the little stamped and die cut pieces and it seemed to work.

So now I am happy with my card.  It doesn't happen often that I remake a card...but sometimes ya just gotta go with what ya feel!

See you tomorrow!

If Friends Were Flowers....

Hello Saturday Friends!

Today's card is super simple...but I still love the way it came together.

I made my background and my frame with some of my MFT Stamps dies.  I usually like a patterned background, but I opted for some simple stripes this time.

The stamp set is from Clearly Besotted and is called Pretty Petals.  I've used it a few times before and I love it each time I stamp with it.

So that's it for today's card.  I hope you are having a wonderful weekend - full of laughter, love and creativity.

See you tomorrow!

I Love You

Happy Friday!

I'm still in love with shaker cards.  I was wondering if I could use my MFT Stamps Lightbulb Die to make a shaker and the answer is YES!

I was so excited because it all came together so quickly..maybe even on my first attempt!  I used some silver metallic paper to make the bottom part of my lightbulb and that just made it perfect!

I used some gold papers to accentuate the idea of light and I love the way the card turned out.

OK - off to make more shaker cards!

See you tomorrow.

Happy Birthday

Happy Thursday!

I am getting in right at the end of The Cutting Edge Challenge #9.  I just love this site and hopefully can play along each time they have a challenge which is every two weeks.

Here is the inspiration photo for #9:

I was inspired by the images in opposing corners and the sentiment in the middle.  I used a new Simon Says Stamp die to achieve this look.  I cut it out from the white card base and then again from three colors.  I inlaid all the red, blue and yellow dots and then added a few on top as well as some gems.  This was really fun to create!  I added the die cut sentiment from Little B and decided it was finished.  Sometimes it's hard to know when to stop!

I hope you will take a look at the site and maybe next week you will play along too. It's the place to be!

See you tomorrow!

Thanks

Happy Wednesday!

The Color Throwdown challenge for the week is here.  I get so excited when I see the color palette sneak peek on Facebook every Tuesday!

So here are this week's colors.  They are not something I would have thought to use together, but I love the results.

Just yesterday I received the THANKS die in my mailbox and knew I wanted to use it right away.  So it was the beginning of my card making process.  The flowers are made using a stamp and die set from MFT Stamps.  I think it is retired now...but I still use it and love it!

Remember, you don't have to have the exact colors.  They want you to use the closest match you have.  So join in the fun!!

See you tomorrow!!

Thinking of You

Happy Tuesday!

Today's card is brought to you via my Silhouette Cameo.  I've been wanting to use this cut out heart design for a while.

I was cutting out some other things when I remembered this file, so I just cut it out toward the bottom of my paper and voila! I had a small card front.

I cut out the white using a die and then used the same die in the center of my stitched rectangle die cut aqua piece.  I placed a small piece of the aqua paper behind the heart and then used foam tape to pop up my card front onto a white base.  The aqua showed through perfectly and the card has nice dimension.

I heat embossed my sentiment using Liquid Platinum embossing powder and added a few gems.

I love the simplicity of this card.  It would be really easy to mass produce as a gift set for someone!

See you tomorrow!

Happy Birthday & a Creative Blog Hop

Happy Monday!

Today's post is just a bit different.  As always I have a card for you - this one is a simple Washi tape card.  Five minutes - I promise!

But also, I was invited to join in a creative blog hop by answering a few questions and then tagging another craft blogger and friend to play along next week. So here goes:

What am I working on now?  As always, I am working on more and more cards for my website/blog.  I love making them and always hope I inspire others to make some cards to share with their friends.  I am also crocheting scarves.  I taught myself to knit and crochet at the beginning of this year and I love it.  Finally, I am doing a version of Project Life.  I make a digital two page spread for each week as it passes.  I am actually a bit behind, but I can catch up because I do keep up with what pictures I want for each week.  The rest is just creating the layout. I completed one year already and thoroughly enjoy looking through that book.  It keeps me inspired to continue.

How does my work differ from others in my genre?   I am not sure that my work differs too much for others because I LOVE trends.  I am always inspired by others and by whatever new floats by me.  I do think I have a "style", though.  I would like to think you would know my work if you saw it.

Why do I create what I do?  I have always been a person who loves crafts.  Over the years it has taken different forms - sewing, cross stitch, ceramics, jewelry making, needlepoint.  But I believe scrapbooking  and card making really do fill a need I have to document our lives and to give to others.  No matter what creative road I am on, my need to express myself in art is always important to me.

How does my creative process work?
My mind NEVER stops thinking about things to create.  I see color and pattern and possibility in everything.  I don't know how to explain how my brain works, but I know it never gives my artistic side a rest.  As far as hands on creating, I can't stand to be messy and have to clean up after every completed project.  Sometimes I look at my space after making a card and wonder what happened?  SOOOO much mess!  But I clean it up and start a new creation asap.  I try to leave out a few leftovers on my desk to include in another project.  Sometimes it works, and sometimes not.  But I try!

Now I want to introduce you to another creative friend of mine.  Her name is Annette Witherspoon and she is so completely amazing!  She is going to answer these same questions next Monday on her blog, A Spoon Full of Sugar.  Be sure to take a look and then bookmark her site to you can check it out again next Monday.

My name is Annette Witherspoon. I’ve been married to my husband John for 11 years and I am a mommy to two precious kids who keep me on my toes. Before joining mommy world, I was a public relations professional for 10 years.

I am primarily a card maker who occasionally makes other paper crafting projects.  I started dabbling in paper crafts a several years ago - shortly after receiving a handmade wedding card. I fell in love with the idea of creating one-of-a-kind cards made straight from the heart. Four years ago, I ramped up my crafting endeavors when I started my blog, A Spoon Full of Sugar, which is a play on my real name. A is the first letter of my first name, and Spoon is the last half of my last name. I design for Paper Sweeties Stamps and Eyelet Outlet, which sells eyelets, brads, ribbon,Washi tape and other accessories. Prior design experience includes Sweet Stamp Shop, Pink by Design Stamps, Frosted Designs Challenge Blog, Joy’s Life Stamps, and Stampendous. My work has been published in Paper Crafts and Scrapbooking, and ScrapStreet magazines. I also wrote for ScrapStreet Magazine, an online scrapbooking and paper crafting magazine.

So there you are - a little bit about my creative process and a sneak peek into what you will find at Annette's blog next Monday.

See you tomorrow!

Hey Friend

Happy Saturday!

I am off to church with two of my daughters in law this morning.  Our pastor's wife is leading a ladies' event and we are all so excited to be attending!

I am still using up some of my older supplies (and always adding in something new too) and that's how this card was born.

I am at the end of my nautical paper now which makes me sad...but I paired it with this fun die cut from Pretty Pink Posh and some little pinwheel stickers I had been hording.

I just love the way it came together!

See you tomorrow.

You're So Very Sweet

Happy Friday!

Have you noticed that gold is in vogue right now?  I knew as soon as I saw the trend I would love it.  I am sure it won't last too long...but while it's here, I am going to create using lots of gold.

My stamped and die cut cherries are from Clearly Besotted.  I noticed Simon Says Stamp has a new exclusive set with fruit too.  Be sure to check out both.  Since I already had this set, I had to fight diligently NOT to buy the SSS set too.  It was hard, but I didn't buy it.

I am entering my card in the SSS Wednesday challenge this week.  You should play along too.  Just follow the link.

See you tomorrow!

Love You More

Hello Thursday Friends!

My card today is a mix of old and new.  I've been on a mission to use up some of my older papers and embellishments - but it's only fun if I can add in something new.

The new is that diecut butterfly from Simon Says Stamp.  Everything else is from an older paper pad, an old sentiment sticker or plucked from my random embellishment box.

I managed to use up quite a bit on this one card.  So I'll say mission accomplished on this one!

See you tomorrow!

Happy Thoughts

Happy Wednesday!

The Color Throwdown challenge for the week is here.  I think it is my favorite challenge on the web.  And I love that they give us a sneak peek of the new colors on Tuesday

So here are this week's colors.  I knew EXACTLY what I would be doing with these colors!  My pink actually turned out a bit dark...but I still love it.

Everything on my card is cut from my Silhouette Cameo except the yellow dotted paper and the leaves.  I cut it all in white and then used Copic Markers to color the flowers before I overlayed the scribble pieces. I had been wanting to use the scribble flowers cut file since I first saw it and today was the day!!  I added the little stamped envelope right at the end.  I like the way it coordinates with the flowers and the sentiment.

Remember, you don't have to have the exact colors.  They want you to use the closest match you have.  So join in the fun!!

See you tomorrow!!

Happy Birthday

Happy Tuesday!

I've got a quick and easy inlaid sentiment card to share with you today.

I've found inlaying diecuts is just the most wonderful way to have a non dimensional card, but still have it pack a punch and leave the recipient wondering how I did it.

Of course it is easy.  Just cut the die twice - once from the card front and then again from a coordinating paper.  Then just apply tape to the back of the card front and stick the sentiment in place.  It just couldn't be easier!

Have a great day and I'll see you tomorrow!

Floral Canvas

Hello Monday Friends!

Today's project is actually one that I started back in May.  I was lucky enough to go to the My Favorite Things Annual Retreat in Florida and this project (sort of) was one of our classes.

My original project got a little bit smooshed in my suitcase, so I decided to take off everything and keep the background canvas.  Barbara Anders taught this class and I'll just say this one thing.  The canvas alone without any embellishments on it is pretty enough to display.  She is a remarkable designer and super sweet person.

I kept this project on the back burner while I collected some cream colored flowers and embellishments along with some metal and wooden pieces from my stash.  I also wanted a touch of red on it because there was some light red stenciling on the canvas.  Once I was satisfied with what I had, I just started arranging and hot gluing. And I just love the final design.

I like the fact that I was able to take my project a step further instead of giving up on it when it got smooshed,  I have it displayed in my dining room and it makes me smile EVERY time I look at it.

'til tomorrow!

Hello! You are My Favorite

Hello Saturday Friends!

Have you seen the newest sketch challenge at the Eyelet Outlet Blog?  Here is the sketch:

I think using sketches as a starting point is just so much fun!  It leave that much more time to choose stamps, papers and embellishments!

I used some Eyelet Outlet Washi tape and the Saying Bubble Brads to embellish my card.

Be sure to check out the blog for all the rules on entering the current challenge.  I can't wait to see what you will make!

Happy Bird-day

Happy Friday!

I told you I'd be back with some more of these adorable flamingos from Reverse Confetti.

I noticed they were having a color challenge, so I thought I would jump right in.

The challenge colors are navy, red and gold.  It took me a few times to get the card the way I wanted, but I am happy with it now.

Gold does not photograph very well, so it was a bit tricky to get a good picture.  I wonder if there is a trick to it.....

Here is the inspiration photo if you want to play along:

Have fun with the challenge and I'll see you tomorrow.

Sending Lots of Love

Happy Thursday!

Well, it's official.  I just can stop using the Scribble Flowers stamps and dies from Simon Says Stamp.  I am hopelessly in love with them.

This time I just stamped the black outlines of each flower and leaf and then used the dies to cut them out.

The papers are from Bo Bunny's Baby Bump 6x6 pad and
the sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp.

I am getting in right at the end of The Cutting Edge Challenge #8.  I've been wanting to play along since they started.  So here is my first attempt.

And here is the inspiration photo:

Have a great day and I'll see you tomorrow!

You are my Sunshine

Happy Wednesday!

The Color Throwdown challenge for the week is here.  I knew right away that I was going to use the same stamp set that I used yesterday.  I just love these Scribble Flowers from Simon Says Stamp!  I did a faux watercolor technique using distress inks and water.  It was a bit messy, but the stamp set lends itself toward that.  I just love how the black lines are offset, making these posies so very whimsical and sweet.

So here are this week's colors.  They are so vibrant and I am sure
everyone's cards will be beautiful!

Remember, you don't have to have the exact colors.  They want you to use the closest match you have.  So join in the fun!!

See you tomorrow!!

Hi - Tag You're It Challenge

Happy Tuesday!

I've been wanting to enter the Tag You're It Challenge since it started a few months ago.  Today is the day!  I am really excited!!

The rules are pretty simple.  They show an inspiration tag and we get to decide how it inspires us and then make a tag using that idea.

I used the Simon Says Stamp Flower Scribbles stamps and dies for my flowers.  And my inlaid HI is from MFT Stamps.

I am not used to working with anything messy, but I wanted to try this faux watercolor technique using Distress Inks.  It WAS messy (for me anyway) and it took three tries, but I really do like how it turned out.  (My good camera is out on loan.....it is prettier in person.)

So here is the challenge tag:

I was inspired by the inlaid sentiment and the flowers.

Have a wonderful day and I'll see you tomorrow!

Thank You - PaperTrey Ink Blog Hop

Happy Monday!

Thank you for coming by today for the PaperTrey Ink blog hop.  I would love it if you joined my blog while you are here.  I promise you will see a new creative project each day!

This month's PTI challenge is based on a photo posted on the blog.  Nichole said we could use whatever inspires us from the photo, so this is my card.  I was inspired by the gold embossing and small stamped sentiment.  I couldn't get a great picture of my card and envelope, but I promise the gold embossed sentiment, wooden arrow and heart are super sparkly with gold embossing powder.

Don't forget, you can play along too.  Just create your project and link it up right here.

Here is the inspiration photo so you can get right to work on your project too:

I hope you have a great Monday.  I'll see you tomorrow!

We are sponsored this week by Freckled Fawn.  They have some great embellishments on their site - really cute wooden pieces and LOTS of Washi tape.  The Washi tape on my card is from their site.  Isn't it the cutest?

Happy Thoughts

Happy Saturday!

I was cleaning up my stamp supply (I have too many) and I found this little cutie.  I don't even know who the artist is or how I got the stamp - oh my.  But I just couldn't resist coloring her in some super fun and bright colors.

And then of course I had to use the image in a shaker card!  I am hopelessly hooked on shaker cards.  It's the truth.  Oh well, I love them and have enough sequins to make about a thousand more shakers!

I used two of the stacked rectangles from MFT Stamps to make my shaker frame.  It is really easy to cut the shaker all at once by lining up the rectangles and cutting them just once.

I wanted to enter this card in a challenge and here is the one I chose:

http://prettypinkposh.com/2014/08/cutting-edge-blog-hop.html

I just love Pretty Pink Posh - and to prove it, I loaded up my shaker with plenty of Pretty Pink Posh sequins!  Click here for the link to the hop.
It should be great fun!!

I hope you have a wonderful day and I'll see you back here tomorrow!

The Proposal

Hello Friday Friends!

I love Fridays because it is the day that new Jenni Bowlin product is released at Snap Click Supply!

This is the sister website to Jessica Sprague where so many beautiful products are for sale.  If you haven't seen the site yet, be sure to take a look today.  It is worth the trip!

I used the brand new Jenni Bowlin Morning Mist kit for my layout.  I used masks to soften up all the papers and I just LOVE the look.  The wonderful advantage of digital is that you can make papers and elements any saturation or even color!  The colors you see in my layout are much more muted than the original kit colors.  Be sure to check out the kit....
you will love it.

New releases are always 20% off during their debut weekend, so be sure to hop on over to  Snap Click Supply and take a look!

See you tomorrow.

Hello

Happy Thursday!

Color challenges to the rescue!!

A few weeks ago, there was a color challenge for which I made two different cards.  I decided to use the other one for that challenge.  The colors were grey, aqua and red.  So...here is the first card I made, but didn't use.

I paper pieced and colored my little MFT Stamps Pure Innocence girl and then just went through my 6x6 pads to find some papers I wanted to use.  Knowing the colors I needed really helped me find the right papers quickly.

I love color challenges because I often would never think to use the week's palette, and then I LOVE the results.  I even like to go back to old ones for inspiration.

Have a wonderful Thursday and I'll see you tomorrow!

Sending You Lots of Love

Happy Tuesday!

I am still loving the shaker card fad.

On this one, I used a die from PaperTrey Ink and cut it numerous times to make all the parts and pieces.

I added just a small piece of patterned paper behind the shaker and stamped LOTS OF LOVE on it before adhering it.

I've been also falling in love with wooden arrows lately, so I had to add one here too.

Enjoy your day and I'll see you tomorrow.

Carpool Notes

Happy Saturday!

The other day I showed you some cute tags using brads from Eyelet Outlet.  While I had them on my desk, I got inspired to make one more project using these adorable car brads.

I gave this notebook to my daughter.  She has a kindergarten boy now, so she can keep this in her car to scribble down notes while she waits in the car line.

Have a wonderful day and I'll see you tomorrow!
